Endorsements and Independence

Lisa Edelheit recently highlighted a long list of union, organizational, and private endorsements. Every organization has the right to support the candidate of its choice, but voters should also consider what those endorsements may represent.

I made a deliberate decision not to seek or accept union endorsements. That decision was based on principle: a County Supervisor may later vote on contracts, compensation, benefits, and policies affecting those same organizations. I believe avoiding even the appearance of political obligation is the right thing to do.

This does not mean I oppose workers or public employees. They are our neighbors, friends, and family members. They deserve fair compensation, safe working conditions, adequate staffing, and equitable treatment. My concern is not with individual employees—it is with maintaining independent judgment when organizations with a financial interest in county decisions become involved in campaigns.

I am grateful to have the support of several local businesses, but the overwhelming majority of my endorsements come directly from ordinary voters. No endorsement—whether from a business, organization, or individual—will purchase special access or preferential treatment.

My responsibility will be to everyone: employees, taxpayers, working families, property owners, business owners, seniors, and future generations.

An impressive endorsement list may demonstrate political connections. My campaign is built on something more important: the confidence of the people who live here and must live with the decisions made after Election Day.

I will bow to no special interest. I will be your voice at the table.
