Meet Stanley Bissmeyer

Updated: Mar 12

My name is Stanley Bissmeyer. I am running for Mariposa County Supervisor of District 1. I will be a dedicated public servant with a vision for progress.

My commitment to the community and innovative ideas make me a candidate worth voting for. Here we will explore my background, my vision for the future, and why I believe I am the right choice for District 1.

Background and Experience

I have deep roots in Mariposa county. I was raised in a family that valued  hard work, community service, and independent living. I learned early on the importance of giving back to the community.

I  moved to Mariposa in 1970, and graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1974. I married my wife, Debbie, in 1977, and together we raised our two sons right here in Mariposa. This county has been our home now for more than five decades.

Professional Journey

My professional journey is marked by significant achievements:

●      After graduation, I worked for three seasons as a seasonal firefighter with  the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Protecting our homes,  forests, and property from fire remains one of the highest priorities on my agenda.

Following my firefighting service, I worked in logging, construction, road building, and later owned and operated a logging and sawmill business as a licensed Timber Operator.

Through this work, I have collaborated closely with foresters, archaeologists, biologists, and conservationists on environmental projects throughout Mariposa County and the surrounding mountain areas.

I am a strong advocate for responsible land use, believing we must protect our environment while continuing to live and work within it.

In 1982 I began working in the church and community as a youth pastor and counselor, most recently serving at New Life Calvary Chapel Church in Bootjack, where I continue to serve in many capacities.

This work has strengthened my moral foundation and deepened  my love and commitment to our community.

●      For 18+ years, I volunteered as a Poll Supervisor for Mariposa County elections. I also served on the Mariposa County Grand Jury in 2015 and 2016, where I inspected and investigated county departments, facilities, and government operations.

This experience gave me valuable insight into how our county government truly functions.

I am also a strong supporter and ally of the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Department, and the vital role it plays in keeping our community safe.

●      In 1986, I began working as a certified P.C. 832 Group Supervisor/ Youth Counselor at Mt. Bullion Youth Conservation Camp, and later at the N.A. Chaderjian Youth Correctional Facility, from which I retired in 2000.

I earned my Associate of Science degree in Computer Graphics and Design in 2000, while I interned for a motion picture company in Modesto.

From 2000-2006 I owned and operated an art gallery in downtown Mariposa. I also provided graphic design and video production services.

From 2006 to 2011, I taught grades  K–12 at a private school. In 2012 to 2020 I worked as a consultant for developing forestry, logging and sawmilling. In this position, I developed business plans, and trained employees in the forestry and sawmill trades.

These experiences have prepared me for the position of Mariposa County Supervisor, with personal character qualities and knowledge of the office that is necessary to do an outstanding job as your Supervisor of District 1.

Residents have shared their thoughts on Stanley's candidacy:

●      Robin Long, local business owner, says, "Stanley truly cares about our community. He listens and takes action."

●      Katee Owens, long-time resident, adds, "I have been so impressed with Stanley's knowledge of county operations and history. You can't talk to him for 5 minutes without learning something that you didn't know."

●      Hannah Haley, long-time resident, told us, "Stanley is my next-door neighbor and friend. Stan and Debbie have provided our family with compassionate support and love in the 6 years we’ve had the joy of being their neighbors.

They are reliable and honest people, and consistently prove that  time and time again. Having them next door has been an amazing blessing, and they have become like family to us. I have shared in many conversations with Stan about the issues we have here, and the hopes of better forest management, also.

These conversations have been wonderful for me in regard to his experience, and show his willingness to openly, and happily share and teach it. He has wonderful perspectives, and a love for this community that drives him.

He will be excellent in this role as he is not afraid to stand up for what is right and good. I have also shared in talks with him about learning from mistakes. A leader who doesn't have an ego that drives them often is a successful one, and that is Stanley.

He is a humble, kind and honest man, and he would do great in this role.

We love the Bissmeyer’s and Stanley Bissmeyer has our vote. I hope he has yours, too."

Challenges Ahead

I acknowledge the challenges that lie ahead. District 1 faces issues such as budget constraints, infrastructure needs, and the ongoing effects  of government-caused onerous insurance and inflation costs.

Only with hard work and true commitment can we face these challenges. With your vote, I plan on meeting the challenges listed below:

Budget Management

I plan to prioritize fiscal responsibility by:

●      Conducting Comprehensive Budget Reviews: Identifying areas where funds can be allocated more  effectively. Cutting when possible, and not just going along with the status quo.

●      Seeking Grants and Funding: Actively pursuing state and federal grants to support community projects and establish new construction of our infrastructure.

Infrastructure Improvements

The issue of infrastructure is one that I believe it is crucial for the district's growth. I plan to:

● Assess Current Infrastructure: Conduct thorough evaluations to identify areas in need of repair or upgrade. Provide the necessary guidance and funds to achieve satisfactory outcomes of the evaluations.

● Engage with Experts: Collaborate with engineers and urban planners to develop  effective solutions for growth and future needs.

Call to Action

As I embark on this journey to become the Supervisor of District 1, I invite residents to join me in shaping the future of their community.  Here’s how you can get involved:

●      Attend Campaign Events: Participate in town halls and community gatherings to learn more about my vision for Mariposa.

●      Volunteer:   Join the campaign team to help spread the word and engage with fellow residents.

●      Vote:   Make your voice heard in the upcoming election. Every vote counts.

●      Support: All political campaigns cost money. Your contribution, weather it is the loose change laying around, or a major contribution, it is ALL appreciated!

Conclusion

I am not just a candidate. I am a dedicated community member with a clear vision for District 1. My commitment to community engagement, wise development, and government accountability sets me apart as a leader who truly cares. As the election approaches, it is essential for residents to consider the impact of their vote.

By supporting me, you are choosing a future that prioritizes the needs of the community, and fosters a spirit of collaboration and growth.

Let’s work together to make District 1 a place where everyone can thrive!

EVERY VOTE COUNTS, EXPERIENCE MATTERS.
